concerts
Although my grounding is in chamber music and classical repertoire, I also have extensive experience of performing contemporary and experimental music. Having worked in all sizes of ensembles as well as on solo performances. I always bring a fully engaged, co-operative and adaptive skillset to the rehearsal process.
The kinds of performances I have been involved with include:
Leading an orchestral section of up to 14 players as principal cellist in the University of York and Edinburgh Symphony orchestras
Working intensively on string quartet repertoire of all genres as part of the professional Eboracum Quartet in York
Performing as soloist and solo accompaniment to the Ebor Singers (including Tavener's Svyati and Richard Rodney Bennett's A Farewell to Arms) in York Minster
Workshopping and performing contemporary pieces as part of the University of York’s Chimera ensemble and the AMOK platform
Performing historically-informed Baroque and Early music, including as solo continuo, at venues such as the National Centre for Early Music
recordings
I have also participated in recordings of classical, experimental and pop music, both in studio environments and live concert recordings. In these endeavours I have transcribed demo tracks, improvised solos, and offered my instrumental expertise as advisory to the composer/producer.
musicals and opera
To date I have played in the band/orchestra for eleven productions of musicals and operas, in a wide range of settings and musical styles - from orchestral opera and operetta (e.g. Cosi Fan Tutti, Oberon, Ruddigore) to 20th-Century stage musicals (e.g. Sweet Charity, A Little Night Music, Spend Spend Spend).
To each of these projects, usually performing as solo cellist, I have brought a dedication to excellence in the final product as well as a professional, co-operative and enthusiastic approach to the rehearsal process.
